Looking to bust out the welder and have some fun.

Not expecting crazy power.

But i had a dumb question .

Any of these new cars have ball bearing factory turbos?

The cruzes or the hyundais . or the equinoxes. or the Ecoboosts? the mercs or beemers.

The mustang 2.3EB turbo is a pretty fantastic unit.

The GM 1.4T turbo is absurdly tiny and made into the exhaust manifold. I'd avoid those.

Lots of the newest turbos have the exhaust turbine housing cast as part of the exhaust manifold in order to help reduce possible air leaks (joints/gaskets) and to get them up to temp faster (less total material). If you felt confident about welding cast iron, you could make use of some of these newer turbos, which are almost all ball-bearing units.

Probably pretty easily find the Borg Warner, twin scroll unit used on the BMW N55 engine pretty cheap. Lots of guys replace them with larger turbos.

My Google-fu has told me that the N55 comes with a single B03.

At least on eBay, I'm seeing the B03 go for around $300 or more.
