I've noticed that the U-Pull yard charges $11 for "exhaust parts" which is anything that isn't a manifold or a cat. So midpipes, resonators, mufflers, etc. are all fair game. Since I'm up north, I wouldn't want to bother with non-stainless exhaust off a U-Pull car, but I think at least some cars are using 409 stainless nowadays. Does anyone know of a good donor for a decent length of 3" pipe, and/or a couple bends? Maybe a late model truck?

Gmt800 trucks and same era vans have 3" stainless pipes factory. Still have a 6.0 van tailpipe behind my garage for challenge use. Pulled from a 311k mile 2007 van and sitting outside since 2017 no rust

A lot of GM trucks are 3" and have nice mandrel bends.

You mean GMT800? I had an early GMT400 and its exhaust was neither 3" nor stainless, but they could've switched over later, I guess.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions though, guys. Will be on my shopping list next time I go.

Check out the diesel trucks. They usually have larger diameter pipes than the gas equivalents.

Yeah i was tired. Gmt800. The v8 gmt360 may also, I know the pipes are stainless but forget if 3" or not. The only reason 99+ GM trucks ever need exhausts replaced is because people put loud aftermarket kits on that aren't stainless then get stuck in a loop of rust and replacement. The originals outlast the trucks

I agree, my 88 Silverado definitely is neither stainless or 3 inch.

Any reason you discount stealing some 4" off some brodozer?  A single 4" flows more than dual 2-1/2" (granted, less than dual 3").

A modified diesel truck is going to be a pretty rare find in a U-Pull around here, and likely to be rapidly picked apart by a crowd of brozoder enthusiasts. If I happened to find one, I'd be temped to buy the exhaust on principle, though!

Darn, the Walker exhaust diagram from RockAuto shows the pipe diameter on GMT800s as 2.75", not 3":

Ah, it's gotta be the 6.0L or the big block. Then you get the 3" system:

Duramax trucks also appear to be 3".

Ford Expeditions/Navigators from 2007+ all had 3" piping and some of the later ones had a nice 3" straight through bottle style resonator at the tailpipe. They were also T409 and the 2011+ versions were coated in some black rust proofing that holds up really well in harsh environments.
