Just doing my usual browse of the local CL and came across this ad that caught my attention. As much as I'd like to, I really can't buy it. But I don't know diddly squat about tuning these things. Every Miata I've had has been bone stock. Opinions on the stuff in this car? Do the pieces go together nicely?

It sounds like a good collection of parts, and looks to be in very nice shape, and done by an enthusiast who knows the cars, not a punk stancetard
It looks like a clean build, and a clean car. If you were in the market it's a good price as well. The pieces were put together nicely.

Meh, selling a turbo car with a crappy tune = pass.
If he can't take the time or the few hundred dollars to get it properly tuned, I wouldn't be interested.
Nice looking car for the $$. Crappy tunes means that unless you're handy with megasquirt of know of a local tuner who is, you're going to be spending your time learning MS. That could be great or terrible depending on you... It also means that the car is unlikely to pass emissions as it sits.
Is the low brake fluid (and I sure hope it's Super Blue) indicative of the quality of maintenance?
Not the set of parts I'd put on the car myself, although they are good shocks. But it's a good base for a tinkerer. Expect to spend some time fettling.

My point about the tune as well.
It's a rare person that optimizes their tune before selling the car.
There's a built motor turbo na in louistucky I'd trust before that. $6900.

I guess my thought was, "How thoroughly did they do everything else if they are ditching the car with minor work left?"
It seems 9 times out of 10, this is a "dumping a problem car" scenario.
I got the same amount of offers on my msm running badly as I did with an optimized tune.
That being... 0.

That, or it might be "Super Coffee". Black, no sugar. Got that out of a few cars over time...
The oil or water line slowly rubbing its way through the air filter is also massively confidence inspiring.
Or its low because the pads are shot like the owner said.
Yes, but how difficult is it to top up brake fluid? It's awfully low. It's not like the pads suddenly disappear, it's been falling for some time. Also, Super Coffee is not the performance fluid of choice ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/laugh-18.png)
Coolant reroute but a crappy radiator and stock fans. Interesting choice. Wouldn't have been mine. The exposed wire hanging below the dashboard is also indicative of a questionable installation.
If you want to sell a car to anything but a project, you put the best possible tune in it. Buyers who are willing to pay money don't want excuses, they want a car that just works. Buyers who are willing to accept evidence of bad maintenance, bad installs such as that water line and crap tunes are going to offer you pennies on the dollar.

I don't need a 3rd Miata.
I need 1 Miata, a trailer, and a tow rig. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/laugh-18.png)
