So this all developed pretty quickly but a few minutes ago I put a deposit on a 21 WRX. It's currently on a ship somewhere with a port date of 9/3, estimated availability to me is mid September.
The most I've ever spent on a car for myself is $5,000 and I think the newest car I've ever bought had been at least 12 or 13 years old. Lowest mileage was ~75,000.
Tell me I'm not crazy...
What options? Base? Not a bad plan.
Enjoy it.
Sometimes it just lines up where the best option is to buy new. I did it years ago with a 2003 TDI Jetta Wagon. After spending a number of months looking at used options, spending a bit more for a new one with a clean slate (and a known service history) made sense to me. I still have the car (sort of...).
With how the WRX can be abused, I'd be tempted to buy one new as well.
Congrats!
i bought a new 2016 Limited WRX. Was fun
looking forward to all the new 22 MY changes in 9 days. If its to my liking, def getting one
Enjoy!
I would highly recommend the Group N transmission crossmember mount. It tightens up the drivetrain a non-marginal amount.

It's a Premium. Only options beyond that are floor mats and a front license plate bracket.
More scary and possible less fun if you said you just spent a lot on a used WRX owned for the past 7 years by a 25 year old. A WRX seems like one of those cars where it can be a lot less trouble to just pony up and buy new.

Yeah, my thinking was that I will probably put about 8,000 or so miles a year on it, maybe less. At the end of five years when it's paid off it will still have a high resale value. Why buy a used one for not a ton less and have a higher payment and more miles, plus unknown maintenance and abuse?

Agreed. A couple weeks a go I was ready to drop $20,000 on one that had a rebuilt title.

Thanks, I thought about waiting for the 2022 but I wanted one now(ish).

Thanks, I will look into that.
Not crazy at all, congrats! I've purchased three new vehicles over the years and will likely buy a fourth one next year when we get the pricing details for the 400Z Performance trim, and if it's too much, I'll stick with a BRZ or GR86. I really love the Neptune Blue on the GR86.
It's nice to know you're the only who has farted in your seat. ![devil devil](https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/static/ckeditor/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/devil_smile.png)

Usually the PDI tech and delivery driver does that. I took delivery of my 2021 Tacoma brand new . Delivery was with 1 mile to dealer (farting happened at factory). Dealer had to add a mile to PDI tank of gas.
i was the 3rd person to fart on it at mile 2.3

of course given us Tacoma, wrx, and wrangler owners spend the least money on our cars (due to highest resale value in usa), our unicorn smelling farts doesnt devalue the cars ![cheeky cheeky](https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/static/ckeditor/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/tongue_smile.png)
Subaru is really the only thing I buy new anymore they really are great cars and the WRX is a better daily then the STI is and cheaper to boot.

If I can wait until next fall, I may for an STi. But I've already not had a car since March.

It's not an issue using that with stock engine mounts?
Nice to see a positive Subaru thread. Usually it's about head gasket problems, the sound of the engine, oil consumption etc. I personally love them and have had 5 so far, all trouble free. Looking forward to the new WRX and hoping we get a manual in the Forester XT again in the future.

Agreed
To the OP, nice! I personally think the only cars worth buying new are performance oriented/ enthusiast cars and Toyota trucks.
