Just spent 2 days with the new 370Z...

Thanks Tim. I had read that earlier and just re-read it again. The anti-Alfa comment is a killer but I will reserve myself and wait for my own opinion.

I'll bite. I don't get the 10 till 4.

I have trouble developing the instant love and hate for a car that other people do. Maybe I am too logical, but most cars seem to have pros and cons. Sometimes this adds up to a car I really like, sometimes it doesn't. The closest I get to hating a car is typically indifference. Sometimes, I like a car better than I would think I would based upon things I can't quite put my finger on.

I had a 260Z. I really liked it, but there was a reason it was light. It seemed to be made out of cheap tin. I also had a '95 300ZX. This was a great car. I wish they were a bit lighter and more tossable, but in my opinion the solidity and quality of the car are worth the weight.

I've driven 350Zs, but I've never owned one. I like them a lot - great engines and good handling. They aren't meant to be go carts. It isn't fair not to like them because they aren't Miatas. Back in the day, there were plenty of cars lighter and more tossable than a 240Z, but the Z had a great engine and good handling. I'm not a big fan of the interior quality or the weight of the 350Z, but I'd be even less of a fan if they gave it a dedicated platform and a better interior and wanted another $10K for it. I haven't yet driven a 370Z, but I am guessing the same would hold true for it.

Got a ride on track in one a few weeks ago. Saini was only able to do single laps for people as the cars oil temp would raise up and the ecu would shunt the car into a limp mode. Car felt heavy even from the passenger seat. It did feel compliant with the drivers wishes on track... but Jason was really just having fun and tossing it around.

Oh forgot to mention the complaints out there about even coming across the oil overheating issue on the street....

Seeing it in person... confirmed how ugly it is though. Definitely an opinion... but EW.

same here. it seems like people are determined to make up their minds about a car immediately the first time they see a picture, and are then determined to not deviate from that opinion. it's weird, frankly. i find that a car can look totally different in person than it looked in a picture. and it can drive much differently than you expect based on how it looks or its paper specs. so why the rush to exalt or condemn a car based on a spec sheet and a photo? i don't get it.

the 370, IMO: looks much better in person than in pics. haven't driven one, but would like to. but no matter how it drives, it's probably more than i want to spend on a car, esp one w/ 2 seats.

Oh man, I completely didn't see that one. That is classic.

Before I purchased my (then) GTO, I looked hard at the 350z. They were always quick on the track and they have a lot of 'improvement' options. I really wanted to like the 370z because they took the same formula and improved it by (trying) to make it lighter and giving it more hp. From what I have read, everyone that tracks the 370z says the brakes and oil temps are a problem. Solvable, but still that stuff adds up.

I really like the Nismo styling package too. Maybe a bite over the top, but I think it looks better than the catfish look it has stock.

Hope the economy doesn't kill this car. The thing I like (now) about the 350z is that they are abundant and cheap. Picking up a decent used 370z two years from now would be awesome. Especially if the price is right, I will have room for some of my 'improvements'.

Lastly, I wonder what they will be able to get the weight down to for a street/track setup. From what I read, people are down to the 3,200's. Really wish they could get down into the sub 3,000. If wishes were horses, right?
