If people built cars to make money, no body would build cars.
Ok , I say get the kit, but Please tell us where you are getting it. I have a 2005 rustless focus that I paid$500 for. I want to put a turbo on it

When I get all my ducks in a row I'll be ordering from fswerks. All the focus forums I've been on like them.

Your club's trophies are worth $5?! Does your club have some sort of Scrooge McDuck money bin?

Because this is GRM, so all of that happens after the 4k turbo kit. Or during, depending on what you see on the way to pick it up.
Spending $4k on a turbo kit on a $1500 car is a life changing event. Everything will be different afterwards. It will be the changeover between BC and AD or the moon landing. It's like going to your first swingers event. It's something I hope to do one day; the throw too much at a cheap car not the swingers thing.

I'm still amazed at all these clubs with trophies. We get stickers from the autocross chairs vinyl business.
As for the expensive turbo on cheap car? I'd do it if I could afford it. After years of owning a variety of vehicles, piecing together a kit to install myself has always been full of hard to find parts or missing information even on popular platforms like j bodies and miata, so yes, buying a full kit even at a premium just to have everything proper from the get go makes sense.
