Not trying to spark a firestorm, well, maybe I am.
For self-promotion, and Monster Energy Drink, a big Win. Monster's return on investment has been huge.
In real-life competition, not his promotional videos, Fail. So, like us all, it was a year with mixed results.
heeheehee If only he would fully apply his Gymkhana skills to actual competition. But yeah, his marketing skills and global awareness of an american proving himself in a european mostly sport nowadays? a huge WIN.........and Monster loves it, Redbull hates it! Proof, if you practice enough and work hard at it, you can be successful
I look at him this way... nobody in recent history has promoted rally like he has.. for that, he has my respect.
win
The comments are plenty enough to make any true Subaru fan embarrassed.
I like him. He's a great showman.
I'm in the camp of:
Anything that brings publicity and excitement to WRC is a good thing, especially in the states. I'm just so surprised more Americans don't love it just for the shear "those guys have HUGE stones" factor.
For doing a lot of stuff I wish I had to money to do...Win.
For spending his money to make videos I enjoy watching...Win.
I say win.
Skater guy creates shoe company, sells for uberdollars, spends life having a blast.
I'd say he wins hands-down.
Win. ditto everything said previously about his marketing skills, showmanship and ability to get US eyes to watch awesome Rally events.
2nd - with the right team, the right focus, the right strategy and the recognition that he needs a hell of a lot more "practice" to develop consistency in competition he has the beginnings of what could be a tremendous WRC career.
He is good for all of us, steers street racers into competition in legal environments, he is doing what I wish I could do, he is not hurting anyone.....
Big time win.

I don't follow your logic.
The logic is there are tons of GRM board threads that happen every day. No one responds to every one of them. They are selective. The ones they don't care about, they don't reply to, or possibly, even read.
You have. You have taken the time to at least see what the thread is about and reply. You have some interest. Even if its a total hatred of the guy, which is understandable.
This sounds dickish, which is not my intention.
He's always entertained me, automotively. Win.

Did I miss a few? I'll get right on that. Sorry
Two names are synonymous with rally racing in the U.S. - Ken Block and Travis Pastrana. These guys are a big boost to the renewed interest in all things rally here in the states. Nothing but a big win. He could crash out of every race in 2011 and still be a winner.
Winning races would be better for him, but it's not like the guy's goal is to look good and DNF. Having said that, he does add some flair- sort of like a fighter who knows he may now win, but he's going to put on a heck of a show. And he wins regardless for living a life that most gearheads can only dream about.
If he's actually a flatbiller, that's unfortunate.
But he's sure living the dream. Even with his money, I'd be a worse driver, so I can't comment much there.
