So I've been searching the site and I cant seem to find what I'm looking for, so here goes: The craigslist ad: here I am assuming that the engine in the ad (late '70 Fiesta) is the 1600 kent. yes/no? What I have is a '77 Capri with the 2.3L and Type F 4 speed (with external linkages) and I am looking to replace the transmission with a T-5 anyways. So, I'm thinking that my Type-F with a 1600 kent would be a cool vintage solution to powering a Locost. Will these parts bolt together with the bellhousing that is already attached to the 2.3L/Type-F?

I believe the bell housing is wrong to go from Lima to Kent, and input shaft depth / pilot bearing issues may come up as well.

I believe the early Capri's that came with 1600's used the Ford "Rocket" gearbox, like this thing here;

It's a top-loader style 4 speed unit that is pretty different compared to your external linkage setup Type F. How much of that matters, I don't know, but I don't think this will be a simple swap using the parts you have on hand. Norm Murdock at Team Blitz would happily sell you anything you might need to get that Type F paired up to a Kent. I personally think an early Capri with a Megaquirt controlled turbocharged 1600 Kent & a T5 would be a nice way to pull good mpg and have a fun car to boot.

The 'Kent' engine is the 1600 pushrod used in a bunch of European Fords, Fiestas, Capris, Cortinas and over here in the Pinto.

From 1971-1974 the Pinto/Capri was available with the 2000 OHC 'German' motor, this one has mechanical valve lash adjustment. This engine will bolt up to a Kent bellhousing but the input shafts are generally different.

After 1974, here in the States it was replaced by the Lima, Ohio built OHC2.0/2.3/2.5 engine. This was the basis for the SVO Mustang, XR4Ti and Turbo Coupe motors. It will not bolt to the Kent or german 2.0 bellhousings. It's completely different from the 2.3/2.5 HSC pushrod motor used in the Tempo/Taurus.

You take the kent block, bolt a Lotus TC head on it, have the cams done reground by Isky, megasquirt that sucker and hang on.
