Anyone have experience with an aftermarket key cloning tool? I have two keys for my 2003 Accord, the door opener programmed nicely, the dealer cut the keys for cheap, but now I need to get the immobilizer part working. It looks like I can order a variety of key cloning devices from ebay or Amazon but I have nothing to go on as far as whether they work. And yes, I could pay the dealer to program the key, but where is the fun in that?

this is what I use at work. It is a smartbox....something. plugs into obd2 port on car, programs most keys with ignition We also have-
I-tool setup. Does older chip keys. Pretty simple stuff, really. Insert original, read key, insert new, clones to chip.

Interesting..... I just paint to have my Ford key made.... Didn't even think of a DIY version..... FWIW the kiosk at the local Safeway was able to read and mail me a key for MUCH less than a trip to the dealer. It wasn't one they could do in the kiosk I guess.

Most Ford stuff is self programmable. Did an f150 earlier today. No dongle required.
I did the Volt key by itself, those I can handle, it's these complicated ones that are getting me.

So, I'm not sure if this helps or not, but I did some digging, and the accord requires what we would call "advanced programming". Meaning in my world, I would need to plug into your obd2 and talk to the car to program the key. It's not as far as I can tell, a chip clone scenario. Usually with these, it reprogram all keys for the vehicle, using the vehicle, at the same time.

With Fords you can use Forscan software and a Bluetooth obd2 dongle to program in your own keys. And a ton of other fun programming stuff.

Ford needs two keys to program a new one as far as I could understand.... I only had one....
