Yesterday, Lionsgate dropped a trailer for its upcoming biopic on Ferruccio Lamborghini titled “Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend.” Staring Frank Grillo as Mr. Lamborghini, the upcoming film will be available in theaters and digitally on demand starting November 18.
But this isn’t the only biopic about an Italian carmaker coming soon. “Ferrari” is slated for release sometime next year and …

Some important aspects of the upcoming Ferrari movie:
Enzo Ferrari: Adam Driver (!)
Piero Taruffi: Patrick Dempsey (may he will be able to provide some practical car / racing knowledge)
Based on a book by: Brock Yates (seems appropriate)
Director: Michael Mann (uh oh..... get that slow mo effect ready....)
I am looking forward to both!
That "drag race" between a Countach and a Mondial was really hard to watch. Like, they couldn't afford a Testarossa?!
I took a quick look to see if the Lamborghini movie is showing near me, and I can't find it. I don't think it's getting a wide release.

Could be before the TR came out?

Well then the boxer would have been in production

True enough.
In any case, I'm not sure how much of a "battle" this is going to be. The Ferarri movie has one of the biggest movie stars in the world and Micheal Freaking Mann directing it. The Lambo movie has Frank Grillo, who's a pretty good actor but not exactly a household name. I suspect the differences in budget are quite substantial. And again, I can't find the Lambo movie playing anywhere near me. Frankly, it feels like a straight-to-video kind of thing. I still want to see it, though.

Also you know there's going to be, or at least should be, plenty of racing action with Ferrari.
Other than his beef with Enzo, I don't see Feruccio's story all that cinematic.
the lamborghini movie doesn't come out until next weekend (Nov. 18th)

Hard to like Frank Grillo after what he did to Captain America.

Wouldn't you be salty if you got a building dropped on you?
Grillo is actually a pretty big gearhead, but I gotta admit that Lambo movie looks a little... ehh... basic cable. Has the vibe of a bunch of guys sitting around on wrap day of another movie and saying "Hey, we have a bunch of friends with nice old Lambos. Before that Ferrari movie comes out we should borrow them and shoot a Lambo flick."
Although, honestly, that's kind of a cool way to make a movie, but this one looks like it's caught in the netherworld between Lifetime and USA Network. Hopefully it's better than the trailer.

Frank Grillo is great in the movie Wheelman. It's on Netflix. Watch it for no other reason than it has a 73 911 Carrera RS

And an E46 3Series.
They actualy sent us a screener of that movie and we were supposed to talk to Grillo at some point but we were never able to put it together because he got busy on something else that locked out his promo for Wheelman. I did trade a couple emails with another one of the producers and they were really serious about making very conscious car choices for the film and protratying the car stuff in a realistic way.
And, yeah, it's a cool flick. I thought it was going to be really gimmicky at first, but it works.

Watched it. Well, tried to. It was absolutely horrible. So many glaring issues with, well... everything. A lot of which could have been solved with 10 min of Google. Lamborghini's race in his Barachetta, in 1948, somehow racing against a Mercedes 190SL and a Porsche Speedster. Uh... what F'in time machine did they use to transport those cars back in time to race against him, in '48?
All in, just a horrible movie with continuity errors and all sorts of glossed over events and inaccuracies throughout. Its.... a slap in the face to automotive enthusiasts, everywhere.
