Gross. I did not know this existed and now I am very sad that I do.
That's 4 or 5 year old news
Plenty of those down here for those who think the Nissan Murano convertible is not cool enough.

Please. You are comparing an actual off-road vehicle with a suburban soccer mom crossover that has no utility whatsoever. You think This thing is representative of Land Rover's heritage? Lol.
That's like saying that it would be cool for Jeep to have a convertible Compass. Or a convertible Ford Escape (I mean, the model T was a vert)

I literally live in an area where late model range rovers are dime a dozen, as well as every other luxury vehicle. There are probably a half dozen regular evoques in my neighborhood alone and my neighborhood is nothing special. And I've honestly never seen one of these before. I've also only seen one Murano convertible in the last decade, which happen to park in the lot at my workplace.

Weren't they catering to the status crowd at least back in the '90s with the Disco? I don't know what kind of electronics those had but in my experience they must be Lucas since they are so unreliable.

To be fair, they died a lot when using Lucas electrics too...
The new Discovery 90/110 can be equipped with the supercharged V8 with over 500hp. Which in my eyes, is the best of the engine choices they offer, since the 4 cylinder is weak sauce and the 6 cylinder turbo/hybrid will be wildly unreliable.
Of course that makes it a $100k SUV, in which case why wouldn't you just buy a Porsche Cayenne Turbo and call it a day? Since nobody will be taking their supercharged Disco's on anything but tarmac...

I think a Cayenne Turbo starts at more like $130K and if it's like most other Porsches by the time you're done adding basic options you'll have added 30-40% to that price.

I bet that the only thing you'd need to modify are the tires and possibly a roll cage, only for safety considerations, and this ugly thing would be as good as just about any "real" off roader off the showroom floor.
It isn't any different mechanically than the normal evoque, which was driven across Africa for some production.
They have always catered to the status crowd. That was the whole point of making an upscale brand separate from Land Rover.

Exactly, Land Rover makes rugged, off-road vehicles that the working man can afford to use on the farm or to take hunting.
Unless you want the V8, then they start at $105,000 and you can add $25k to that.

Two things. By the time you've put the options on the V8 Disco it'll be $130k+. Then the fact that if you have the money to buy a 6 figure luxury SUV, a little bit more isn't going to stop you from buying one from a different marque.
People will be cross shopping the V8 Disco with the Cayenne Turbo and BMW X5M...
I cannot think of one reason why I need a 100K+ SUV.
I can think of many reasons a dealer would want to sell me one.
There was some recent GRM Chatter that included the Evoque where I was really surprised to see how expensive and somewhat rare the Evoque convertible is.
Doug was not a fan at $70k
