What makes you think that?

Im guessing the supercharger has something to do with that. Im kinda tempted to get a p38 range rover too, I imagine thats a horrible idea though.

Me too, there was one in great shape that used to live in my neighborhood, I was jealous every time it drove by.
God guys! I was really hoping you'd all say "oh they're great most people just don't know about the simple fixes" but in my heart I think I knew the truth. Considering over also been looking at yukons and they all seem to demand a much higher price for a similar year I figured they might be plagued. I drive a wj grand Cherokee right now and it's very thirsty so I wasn't very worried about that but I was concerned they had expensive part and were difficult to troubleshoot(I'm terrible with wiring). Ive ridden in a few discos and just think theyre so damn cool, looks and ride. But as a DD I do need something reliable, I'm not interested in being stranded with a 2 1/2 year old in a car seat.
because I am a masochist (fiat 124, BMW E36, and a Saab 900 turbo) I would be all over a LR if I wanted an SUV. I bet I could keep one running pretty well

Factory spec for a 4.6 supercharged Cameron Concepts 97 SSE
In reply to D_Howard: Under$5K, not a chance...they would have to PAY ME at least $5k to take one. Definetly a money pit with many issues, outrageously over priced parts with limited availablility. RUN AWAY unless you are a masochist.
Parts are more expensive than a Chevy, but not outrageous. There are several vendors online that are reasonably priced and have great customer service. Prices and waiting time were on par with my E46. $5k will get you a really nice DiscoII with great maintenance records that should be fairly reliable. $5k will also get you one with a blown motor and enough money left over to rebuild pretty much all mechanical systems to perfect. If you want a perfect example on the cheap that will never surprise you, that is the way to go.
I've had two Range Rovers. They will run for a long time as long as they're not overheated. As long as you're willing to put up with warning lights every now and then and the occasional hiccup or rattle you won't have too much trouble, honestly. Trying to keep it perfect will nickel and dime (And dollar and thousand dollar) you to death.
The drivetrain components are very stout and the engine is solid except for being very sensitive to overheating. Parts used to be really expensive. They haven't gotten cheaper, they've stayed the same while other cars have gotten more expensive.
For about the same money, gimme a FJ62. I don't know why, I just like the damn things much better than the FJ80. A 1 or 2UZFE would be an easy swap.
