BIL called this morning saying for the 3rd time recently the boot on the plug has melted off to the point of disintegration. Any sort of known issues there? He's not sure on which engine but it's a late 99 with the round coils, he said.
Otherwise, my guess is that there's a leak, which he's going to check with a bq lighter flame in there.
Those are supposed to have this style of heat shield on them I think:

If that's missing, especially if there's an exhaust leak there, it could cook the boot in a hurry.
How many bolts broken in the manifold?
Yeah i'd guess either the exhaust is leaking or that cylinder is lean and the exhaust runner for that cylinder is unusually hot. Assuming it's not just the boot missing! lol.
He took a better look at it and it's missing some of the gasket right there. No time to do it himself so he's going to get a quote, but it's a plow truck and has issues, I'm suggesting JBWeld to just keep it from melting these things
And it does still have those heat shields

The slip on plug wire booties are very cheap. They were the ticket to keep me from BBQ'ing wires after I put on the headers.
