My friend and I are going to do some catch-up maintenance on his new-to-him V6 early 00s Mustang (5 speed). We are planning to change all the fluids (engine oil, trans fluid, diff fluid, and brake fluid) and change the spark plugs and all the filters. Is there anything special about this or is it pretty straight forward?
We got the Haynes manual just in case and it says that for 'trak-lok' axles I'd need to add 4oz of friction modifier to the diff lube. I am assuming that this is LSD and not traction control correct?
Trak-lok is the LSD. I've never wrenched on one of those specifically, but I can't believe it's out of the ordinary. My 05 GT is not much different in basic fluids maintenance than the 1970 Impala I had....
Make sure the plugs have antiseize on the threads going back in if the heads are aluminum....

That's what I thought. I guess my friend's V-6 doesn't have it so we're good to go with the regular diff fluid. Btw, is the oil filter in a hard to reach area? Ive been spoiled by my E46 BMW whereby the oil filter is right there next to the valve cover ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/laugh-18.png)
The V6 probably doesn't have the locker, but check the manual to be sure. It may have been an option. Or just try to do a burnout...
Have no idea on the filter.... shouldn't be too hard to find from underneath.
they are a normal front engine, rear wheel drive car- essentially the same car from underneath as the 78 Fairmont that was the first to use that basic chassis.
gear oil is gear oil- get whatever the owner's maual recommends, and add some posi additive if it chatters around corners.
