I am about to plumb my first dry sump set up and I need some knowledge. What makes these lines more special than the steel braided lines that we use for fuel? It seems to me that I should be able to cut steel braided hose to fit, slap on some AN fittings and be good to go. Is there a science to it?

Nah, that's it.

Also, you might want to consider the fabric-wrapped lines over steel braided. They're lighter, usually cheaper and fire-resistant, and aren't a danger to other things if they rub.

Don't forget the lines are under a negative pressure cheap hose will collapse. you need to use the thicker wall stuff. Call your vendor of choice and ask if what you have on hand is okay

I just plumbed new oil cooler lines on the sports racer using the blue Summit hose and their push-to-fit AN class ends.

For easy assembly I'll put the fitting in the vise w/ soft jaws, oil the inside of the hose, heat it with a heat gun and holding it w/ a welding glove, push it on.

'Cause I'm the cautious type I also crimp on Oetiker clamps.

The stainless braided lines are heavier and stiffer but they look more badass.

Just sayin'.

We use cloth lines for our dry sump setups on the racecars. We use -10 lines and fittings.

Only advise I have is watch the life of the hoses. We had a hose delaminate at the fitting at the oil scavenge pump and lost all oil going to the motor. Lead to the worst weekend of my life.

Thanks for all the info guys! I need -12 and -16 for my set up. Any suggestions on where to get fittings and lines at a decent price? Of course jegs carries this stuff but their selection of cloth line kind of sucks or maybe it is just their website...

I used oetekers on my bike, not my favorite fitting if you plan to ever disassemble, I'd rather use fuel injection hose clamps personally but the FI clamps have a nasty screw popping out. You don't need the special pliers for the oetekers you can use pliers for I think chipping tile.
