Mrs. DX is itching to get a newer Jetta. She wants probably a 16-17 base S (doesn't like the newer 19 body) and those have the 1.4 turbo. Any red flags w/this motor or good to go? Looking at low mileage ones (15k miles on the clock max)...

A friend of mine picked one up a few years ago (with the 5sp), he's up to 50-something thousand on it now with no issues to report. It's not fast, but that was expected.
My mom has a 2017 Jetta SE she bought new. Its at 50k miles now and no problems. I drove it from DC to Fl for her and really liked it. Its not that slow actually and returns amazing gas mileage.
Good to hear decent things about it. She has a 14 Jetta S with the 2 liter so this will feel like a rocket in comparison. I found a 17 S at the local vw dealer and going to look at it in the coming days.
I really want one if these motors to put in my Mk 1 Rabbit. Shave 50+ pounds out of the motor and maybe even some out of the tranny. Does anyone know a trans code for a six speed manual in one of these? It does not appear to be an 02M and I am hoping it is something scaled down.

We have a 2018 GLI and it is a great riding / handling car considering it is bon stock. we've put about 13K miles on it with zero problems.

As far as I know, the 1.4T all have a 5spd, the 1.8T gets the 6spd.

It looks like 2019 changed from 5 to 6.

Knowing nothing specific to the technology I would say take a look at the Jetta hybrids. The reviews are really positive and sounds like a more fun car than the base model.
There are some 2019 base models with 5-10,000 miles on them for $13-$14,000. Seems low.
