Found a clean 6MT with 120k at a reasonable price. Always liked the look, pretty sure this one has a turbo badge on it but there's no underhood pic.
so what's up with these?

I briefly shopped for these several years ago and decided against it, so that would be my advice. Whatever you are looking for in a car, there's probably another does it better. They aren't bad cars, and I enjoyed the rental one I had. But that was as a rental, in that light it wasn't bad.
edit: it has been a while so I had to enlist google. Doesn't look like the LT was a turbo, just an aenemic 1.8. I was focusing on the RS when I was shopping and went with a JCW Clubman instead. Fiesta ST would've been a front runner if my wife hadn't hated the seats.
I once autocrossed a Sonic turbo hatch that a buddy from GM bought for his kids. It seemed OK for the 37.839 seconds I was behind the wheel. Similar impressions on my other two runs as well. IIRC he also bought two non-turbo B spec Sonic race cars after that. I don't know if he still has them. I'll ask and can put you in touch with him if you'd like Patrick. He's local.
fueleconomy.gov says that for 2013 the 1.8L manual was a 5 speed and the 1.4L manual was a 6 speed. So, if you have proof of 6 speed manual then likely to be a turbo. The same turbo was offered in many Chevy Cruise of the era too. I have no direct experience and I have nothing to say about the engine.
I bought a salvage base model Sonic last year. I had nothing bad to say about the car. The one I had was very basic but automatic.
In 13 the Sonic came with the 1.8 (auto or 5 spd manual) or optional 1.4 turbo (auto or 6 spd manual) The 1.8 is the same motor that was in the Saturn Astra. The 1.4 doesn't make a lot of power but 175 hp is easy with a mild tune, and 300hp with a larger turbo. The motors are stout.
They're generally reliable and safe. Apparently the Corvette team was responsible for modifying the suspension for the North American cars so they handle quite well and the brakes are very good. The fuel economy is not as good as it should be, IMO, and the 1.4 is a little rough around the edges, but our car is almost 8 years old and still looks and drives like new. Being a GM there is an aftermarket, and things like cheap big brake kits that come right out of the GM parts bins. The Trax is the same platform and there's some significant interchange including larger rotors. Camaro and Corvette calipers bolt on.
There is one problem that is common to the 1.4 cars. The PCV system has a 100% failure rate and there are three ways to address it. Wait til it goes then replace the intake (the PCV is integral to the intake) and valve cover, don't wait and buy one of the $125 kits, or block the port off and install an external PCV system for about $25. I've been using the the external system on for two years. Other than the PCV we haven't had any problems.
I would buy another one and when they get cheap I'll probably buy one as a project car.
Here's an odd bird. A pretty rare combo of what looks to be a well equipped model but with a manual. The 4 door and convertible were manufactured separately from the coupe with the coupe actually being built in the Diamond Star plant in Illinios. I'm not sure if the Diamond Star makes it more desirable or less?
2003 Sebring Coupe, manual trans w/ 110k miles asking $3.2k
My daughter loves hers. She has a Sonic LTZ Turbo with the 6 speed. It has about 150k on it now. We just had to replace a couple of sensors in the intake/intercooler system that were causing a low boost condition and do work on the A/C. Other than that it has been perfectly reliable.
It's not super fast, but it is a hoot to drive in a small car kind of way. My only complaint is the driver's foot box is too small for my size 11.5 shoes.
I'm not sure exactly what year hers is, but this is it.
Interesting Nissan Frontier 4wd that needs repair but unclear.
