The LS is built better - higher quality materials and quieter ride, etc - but handles like what it is, a heavy and very large luxury sedan. The GS is faster, handles wayyy better, and is more fun to drive but isn’t quite as nice as the LS in the luxury dept. Its got the toys but it still has iron steering knuckles, steel control arms and sub frames while the LS has aluminum in all that and even the brake calipers. That’s just one thing but it’s a theme carries through the whole car.
For me the GS is the better vehicle because it is so much more fun to drive. The LS though is great at just seamless comfort and it has awesome back seat room.

Yep, that is definitely what I was thinking. To me, I pretty much just need a stereo to take a bluetooth signal (reliably, as my wife's '14 Sienna is a POS) to be happy with it.
Ok, so I've zeroed in on one I'd take a look at if it didn't have the Nav and the ML.
How hard is it to remove the Nav and replace the stereo? Is the Nav removal a simple plug and play with a non-Navigation HVAC panel?
What about the ML? That sounds like a complete cluster that will take some serious installation pains to even get a simple Alpine amp and head unit in.

Here’s what I know (consider this to be hearsay, though, as I’ve not done it myself).
Any 98-05 non-nav heater controls should work, and the electrical connections are supposed to match up with no adaptation needed. This should leave a decent sized opening in the center stack, especially after the head unit is removed. I’ve pulled the controls from a junkyard car, and it’s not tough if you’ve messed with tearing into dashboards before.
The speakers for the ML system are not the usual resistance, so you can’t just toss in a new head unit and amp and be done. Either need something that can match up to the existing speakers, or pull and replace them.
I have no idea if the steering wheel audio controls will still work, but I think I’ve seen head units that supposedly integrate with some cars with steering wheel controls. I’ll defer to the more knowledgeable board members on this one, I don’t know if there is some kind of standard out there.
