What was the third generation Firebird/TransAm that got essentially the Buick Grand National drivetrain? That always seemed like a bit of a mullet unicorn.

Probably about 3 left in existence......

I believe that was 89 GTA Turbo TransAM. Paced Indy the year it was built and was the fastest Trans AM GTA to that time.

now that i've got a proper 5 speed in my 86 Camaro, i've got about this much into it total, give or take a bit:

$400 purchase price for the car with a v6/auto.

$500 slightly used built 355

$175 Hedman long tubes, about $100 for the used flowmaster mufflers and home made 3" in/2.5" out X pipe.

$150 for the used vortec heads and $150 more for the new Performer Vortec intake.

$400 for almost new Edelbrock RPM 850cfm quadrajet carb.

$300 for the non WC 5 speed, $120 for the flywheel and clutch to put it in.

$350 for the 3.42 locker rear with disc brakes out of an 02 Z28.

$100 for the aluminum driveshaft from the car the rear end came out of.

$400 for the Kumho Ventus performance summer tires on the $120 set of GTA wheels..

$500 for the "LS1" front brakes.

$90 for the brand new Moog IROC replacemnt front and rear springs from Summit.

$18 for the Decarbon rear shocks that were on closeout at Rockauto.

$120 for the Wal Mart special Sony Explod cd/mp3/usb stereo, $100 more for the matching front and rear speakers.

$10 for the lawn edging that i used to make the front air dam.

several hundred hours of screwing around, fabricating, and tuning..

it's not pretty, it rattles like crazy... but it is fun, fast, and reliable.

Zombie thread: Novaderrick, how hard is it to swap a v6 car to use a gen 1 SBC? I also have a v8 sub frame from a 84 Z. Considering another mullet mobile. If I can shop v6 cars then that would open up lots of ootions

In reply to Blitzed306:

I may be wrong, but, I seriously doubt that gm used anything different, other than maybe engine mounts, for the V6 cars. It would be highly uncharacteristic of them to have different sub frames. I'm thinking engine mounts and possibly a transmission cross member would be the only real hard parts needed other than the donor drivetrain.
