so this is sort of putting the cart before the horse. we will be picking the truck up tomorrow.

1986 F150, 2wd, I6, 4 speed, long bed. mileage unknown (several owners, mileage rollover, another I6 motor was swapped in within the past year).

frame looked very solid, body was very very solid, no real rust. very very few dents all around, a couple scratches here and there with a little surface rust, minor bumper dings, etc, what do you expect, its 27 yrs old. paint in fair condition, still has some shine to it, overall the truck is straight. asking price was less than half challenge price. truck currently registered and inspected, ran, drove, and stopped well. shifted fine. steering a little on the loose side, only one of the front tires seemed wearing the outside edge, i looked at the front suspension components and nothing was jumping out at me as being in dire need of repair/replacement, no boots torn, nothing leaking, etc.

we've been looking at trucks for the past couple weeks, looked this one over and took it for a test drive and i thought it was worth the price for its age and condition so we jumped on it.

im guessing at most it might see 1k miles a year doing runs to lowes depot, going to the landfill, etc..

so what are the go-to websites/forums for this truck?
what manuals should i have for the garage?
where can i get a cheap steering wheel adapter for a momo type wheel? i have wheels but just need an adapter. not trying to pay $80 for one either.
what else do i need to know?

I'd sell it quick though, you'll probably only get another 300,000 miles out of it

Is there even a word for what you're trying to do here? We may have to invent a new word to describe this.

Id say your biggest learning curve will be remembering to start it and push fresh gas in it often enough to prevent 'issues from sitting'.

bah.. just find excuses to use the damn thing once in a while and it'll be good to go.

regarding the steering wheel adapter: it's just a standard Ford column like they used on bazillions of cars and trucks from sometime in the stone age until at least the mid 90's... if it has cruise control with the control buttons in the steering wheel, you might lose that function. i put a factory steering wheel of a 79 Mustang Ghia in a 66 Ford truck that i had about 20 years ago and it was pretty badass..

itll get driven at least once or twice a week year round.

what I AM going to have to remember to do is look for excuses to drive the 98 MPV that this truck is kind of replacing.

You'll need to log in to post.
