Well, I have a C5. I like it a lot, except people think I'm a "Corvette guy". I race a 944. I like it a lot except people think I'm a "Porsche guy". I have an extra 944 in the barn with a blown engine. I am a candidate. I have been inside 944's for 20 years or so...love them for what they are and enjoy making them competitive on track. But for a fun track day car.....I may make the move.
I don't get it. Why would you put a truck engine in a Porsche?
Granted, the Porsche started with a low revving truck engine, but still. The idea of an engine swap is to move forward, not backward.
07K swap. Think about what 9500rpm and 20 pounds of boost would do to your facial muscles. And they howl like a good 5 cylinder should.
Or if you want to be cheap, the advent of 07Ks has meant that 20v Audis are dropping in price. Less power and less RPM, but an 8000rpm AAN on 25psi is still an awesome thing. And it sounds waaay better than any LS ever does.

For me, it is a matter of mating a fish and a fowl that I like. And I didn't always feel this way. And with some cars I still feel that way. I have an old Rolls. I hate the Chevy swaps. But my 944....different to me. It isn't rare. I already have a "proper" one. I can put an LS in and have a very understressed, excellent handling car with parts that I mostly have.

Would you feel any better about it if we called it a 'Corvette motor'?
I approve. Having looked into this swap from the perspective of "I have an LS1, what am I going to stick it in?" I think there are better/cheaper options out there and I ended up going with an FC RX7. BUT, you already have the car and the knowledge of the platform, so I say go for it. Who doesn't love a torquey, understressed V8 in a light and agile sports car?

You summed up my thoughts better than I did!

It sometimes takes me years to decide to do something. Then about 10 minutes to get started. Not sure personality trait that is exactly, but I have it.
Where did this end up? I'm thinking about an LS swap for the 944 I just picked up.
Go Texas Performance Concepts for parts and info.
The forums there have lots of great info and DIY friendly solutions.
Renegade can suck a bag of them. They bought the former home of the DIY forum after gleaning the good solutions from it and then shutting it down.
Anyway, Docwyte will be along time complain about heat management, especially for a track car (not that he's wrong). He also live at fairly high altitude which doesn't help.
Pay attention to the cooling and the arch the gauges when on the track.
At the end of the day, it's an old chassis that is more than the sum of its parts bin acquired parts (MK1 Golf front, Super Beetle rear), so go have fun with it!
