So like, the GARDA trucks, and I guess ppv, although I'm pretty sure they take all the fun stuff off the ppv.
I can't find any pricing on a used armored truck. Everyone wants you to call them in order to get a price. Which usually means that it's too much for a mortal. This is just a whim idea, I would seriously never consider this.
and I guess if you are going to ask why:
What kind of armor are you looking for? I have two LC200 series armored south of the border.
South Dakota registration.
ones fully armored, other is glass only.
depends on your needs
A used LC200, G Wagen, or Burban is readily available, they show up on Ebay from time to time.
I read somewhere that armor degrades? So once it hits a certain age it loses some or all of its effectiveness.

Heck, for under $10k you can get license plates that say "HOLDIN" and live out your middle tier drug dealer dreams!

Haha, good point. Perhaps our friendly neighborhood Land Cruiser enthusiast has a dark past.

Armored vehicles: Too hot, too hard to work on, too hard to navigate, dynamics are weird, (depending on the vehicle) uncomfortable and tight seatings.

There might not be. I'm far from an expert on the subject, but from what I've heard from friends in the insurance business, armored vehicles are way more common than you'd think for executives and such who need to travel in certain areas. Could be something as simple as "Ted needed a ride from the airport to his meeting."
Or it could be the best story ever!! Let's hear those details!
I'm also kinda curious about the glass only armor logic train. Sheet metal isn't thick enough to stop anything that matters. Right?
Ive seen armored X5s and 7 series for sale occasionally. It's woefully impractical but I want one. Just because.
My technique is to stay away from anywhere an armored vehicle would seem to be a good idea. So far, so good.
Good excuse to go for power upgrades. Armor isn't light.

No story. Sad to dissapoint. We have two places south of the border. When I bought the LCs, 2 years apart, both were used, both were previous armored. Can't speak for previous owners or their stories, but both our 200 series down there is armored. One (full armored) is significantly slower than wife's USDM LX570 north of the border, so it will get a SC on it, when I am down there in December.

Don't come to LaJolla or SD malls then. :) 60-70% of the BC plated vehicles you will see roaming here, is armored. ;) Doug Demuro exempt of course.

Well I didn't buy new, or ordered armor, but am familiar enough with friends who buy armored in SE Asia or South of the border to give you a glimpse of mentality. Glass only armor is middle upper class. These aren't the top guys. Thought behind is, lots of time amateur hits are carried out more pointed towards glass. People often aren't aiming on the lower end of the vehicle. Thus the MU class think its "A" safety net for them. Also they aren't often wealthy enough to fully armor.
Having said that, I would say based on my experience in SE Asia, the TRUE top guys, don't need armor, and don't roll around in armor. No one is stupid enough to really hurt them, as the consequences are too great.
Lastly, if you want to check out my armor LC, since you are local, I will have it here end of the year for the SC install.
Russia - different beast altogether.
