so, I may have the option to get one CHEAP. great looking car in pictures. ive always loved the lines of a 3000gt, but the price of them now, even rusty, is ridiculous.

I'm pretty sure the saxon is a kit car. owner says small ford v6 and a four speed, which screams kit car to me. I cant seem to find any info on al gores internet about it, though.

this would be a own it for a year, enjoy it through summer, and dump it in spring car. hopefully for profit, but at least at break even.

so, just what the hell is this thing, other than red and convertible and 300gt looking?

Curbside Classics did a bit on them. It all comes down to one question: how cheap?

The few I have seen or ridden in were better built than the real deal. (Seabring kits) and were more comparable to a Cobra kit than a Healey 3000. Both had ford 302 engines. Nicer interiors also. Probably has side pipes, love them or hate them.

I dont see how you could go wrong unless the car is damaged. Rust certainly wont be an issue with the body.

The kits were produced by Classic Roadsters which has been defunct for the better part of a decade now after having spent the previous decade on life support. I looked at building a barn find untouched kit for a customer not too long ago. They're not a bad design but support for any missing or needed parts will be nonexistent so you may need to have some fabrication skills. Mustang II derived front suspension and most often a Ford 8.8 in the rear with Fox body 4 link geometry using either coil springs or coilovers. The overall quality of the example you are looking at will be strictly dependent on the abilities of the original builder.

Which was the flared one? Sebring or Saxon? Back when they were still making those kits, I thought a previous generation (at the time, 84) Supra would make a great donor for the flared one. I thought about installing the entire suspension and everything. Never did a thing about it, of course.

Still think it would be a cool idea. Can you buy a triple Weber manifold for a 84 Supra twincam?

Saxon had no flares, Sebring did.

I remember seeing a Sebring on display in an airport when I was a kid. I don't think that I'd ever noticed a real Austin Healey at that point. I never knew that they made the Saxton version.

In reply to Dusterbd13:
They go for prices similar to Cobra replicas. Someone is looking for one locally and put $30K in his WTB ad.It all depends on how well done the car is.I drove a Sebring about 10 years ago and the seller wanted $15K.

Holy crap! So if I'm in it for 5k, I ought to be able to come out pretty good.

That just made it much more worth while.

There's an ad on Detroit Craigslist right now for the fiberglass body only and it's priced at $1995. I'd go look at a complete car for $5K in a heartbeat.
