I'm seriously contemplating getting the D50 set up to autocross, and I have some reservations...

In order to fit in the truck with a helmet, I have to either lower the factory bench, or retrofit some buckets. Wheels and tires are less than ideal, being 14x7s with 680tw 215/70 14 tires. If I go to 16x8, how does that effect classing?  Should I just say berkeley it and modify the truck to work for me, then let it fall where it may? I'm really only into it for the fun factor, I don't really expect to be competitive...

Just make it a fun truck and do anything you want. It will never be a competitive vehicle, so don't try, just enjoy it and "compete" with any other cars running similar times.

It already doesn't fit into a class, do whatever you want to maximize fun.

I’d probably aim for Xtreme Street as it’s pretty much your anything-goes class for a street-licenced vehicle.

So, would it fall under CAM-C since it's badged as a Dodge, or XS-A because it was built by Mitsubishi? Things are becoming much more clear, though...

I’m going to say XS-A since it wasn’t manufactured by Dodge.

Just build what you want. If you want to be competitive you're going to start with a different chassis.

This, I've long stopped caring about autox rules unless I'm legit in it to win it.  And at that point I'm usually codriving a class built car.

Just don't tell any competitors what you've done that may be outside the rules. Some rule-nazis will still protest you out of the class on principle. DAMHIK.

I mean none of it matters, it's dodging cones in a parking lot for bragging rights.

Calculator racing only mattered for Math Tours..... and they no longer do those.

Whatever you do don't do that. The SCCA rulebook is what, 300 pages now? Ugh... Build your car how you want. Go have fun in it. Learn to drive better.

What's uber fun is going out in a car that should suck, and people point and laugh at in paddock.... and then top 10 PAX and top 30 overall of over 100 competitors.
