Through browsing racingjunk.com, I've been introduced to bandolero racing, and the shockingly low prices of older cars without engines. From what I understand, they have adjustable front steering geometry, but no front suspension, and a live rear axle. Powered by 20-30hp Briggs twin engines, but has anyone ever driven one of these things? I have access to some older CBR600RR engines, and am thinking that a $1000 Bandolero chassis with a bike engine could be a riot if they can actually handle.
I've been thinking about a legends car for that purpose. I've read they are not competitive in whichever class it is that they are classed in.
I had a suspensionless cart chassis this time last year. I couldn't find a way to make it legal for any SCCA autocross class. It finally went to a new home with someone who thought he had more mechanical skills than I.
How much does it weigh? That chassis looks pretty heavy to compete in A Mod.
In reply to jstein77:
Quoted weight is 550 for full car, race weight is 750 with driver and ballast.

You couldn't run in the kart class?
Not with a 1000 cc Kawasaki motor. Motor said A-mod, chassis was A-mod sized but without suspension. I decided to get out before I went any further down that rabbit hole.
A Dwarf car might be a consideration. Not sure how it would be classed though.

No suspension? Ouch.
I see suspension (coil over shocks) on the rear in that photo, and assume the same is true in the front, just hidden by the wheel and low res photo.
Edit: Never mind, found this link that says they have no suspension on the front. Ugh!
Mini Cup cars are basically the same thing with suspension up front.
A friend of mine races a Dwarf car in F-Modified.
He's done a lot of development on making it competitive for autocross and now is hanging onto the tail end of competitiveness in FM at national events, and has it running competitive PAX times at local events.
A Bandolero is an overweight kart with a cage built for oval-track racing. Don't bother with it for autocross.
I've been to one autox where a Bandolero ran, and it was in a Mod class. We had a guy show up in a Legends car once and it was a handful on our course, could never get the thing to go straight. For the same amount you'd spend making one work, you could have a nice shifter kart and walk away with FTD every event.

We had a Legends car turn up once to one of our local events. From what I can tell, competitiveness is not really at the top of the list of concerns. Usually they do hilarious loopy runs followed by getting stuck into a corner badly enough that they need marshals to push them back out (no reverse on this one, at least).
Seems like an awesome way to blow that money.
