I am always watching the salvage auctions for interesting engine swap options.

Recently I have been seeing some Isuzu NPR diesels and some Mitsu fuso diesels.

Any info on swapablilty of these engines or how much power they can be turned up to?

I searched the forum and see them mentioned in passing, but no real info on them.

What year? The NPR's 4BD1T and 4BD2T are pretty well documented as 4BT alternatives.

In reply to buzzboy :

I think these are newer than the 4BD1 and 4BD2's.

I had looked into them many years ago.  Never looked at performance mods, but I assume they respond as well as any other diesel.  More fuel, more air, more oomph.  I'm just not sure if the aftermarket is there to make it easy.

Be prepared to have your teeth rattled.  They are designed with reliability and effectiveness in mind, not smoothness or quietness.  If you've ever driven one, they tend to be pretty annoying in a box truck where the cab rides on air springs.  I can only imagine what they might be like in an S10 or something.

I'd probably still do it.  I'm a diesel lover.  I would drink it if it weren't poisonous.

So that one should be a 4HE1 and I think a 4L80E. I'm reading it should have a mech pump too, which makes things a lot easier as far as swaps and upgraded powe.r
