iirc, they're sold overseas with the same engine that is available in the GC over here, so that doesn't make sense to me.

Or a V8. It does not make sense, even more so now with the huge 4 door variant!
Wrangler and diesel makes way to much sense! I'd be all over one!!!

Around here, diesel is about the same as regular, sometimes more, sometimes less. Normally, it would not have made much sense to get the diesel, but her case was kind of unique. She was working at the Chrysler minivan plant and took a buyout. Part of the buyout was a voucher for $30,000 (IIRC) towards a new Chrysler product. She got employee pricing plus some incentives and somehow sold her Neon for more than blue book value so she wasn't that much out of pocket. With the miles she puts on it (both of my brothers live 3 hours away in opposite directions - she really like visiting the grandkids) it made sense for her to get the diesel at that pricepoint. Without the buyout voucher, it would have made more sense to the gasoline V6 or the Hemi (I think the mileage ratings of these are actually very close).

Emissions standards differ between Europe and the US, that is why they are still sold there, but not here.
