So I got a trade offer on Canyonero, an 08 Equinox AWD.
I didn't even know they made them in 08, so I'm a little in the dark. Haven't replied to the person yet, so not sure if it's the 3.4 or 3.6.
What problems and potentials should I be aware of or looking for?
08 GM unibody, so I assume rust everywhere. I hear intake gaskets on the 3.4 can be problematic, and in searching I've seen a lot of the same post of the AWD service light being on with no real conclusions in the posts.

Things I know-
I don't remember them being particularly lauded new. They never seemed to do well in comparison tests. Rust doesn't get em here. Bad mechanics do.
There are FAR more canyoneros still on the road by me than equinoxes. Say what you will about Ferd, but I'm convinced they built the excursion right.
I'm not sure how much I trust 16 year old gm shovelware. I'm 109% certain someone is about to tell me I'm dead wrong and this thing is secretly some sort of ultra-toyota beater, but I wouldn't do it.
Im not sure what Canyonero you are referring to, around here all the Equinoxes are gone unless you travel into the hood. Still a few running around there. Those years of GM were particularly dark, they were trying to dig out from their own financial woes and things were spec'd and built as cheaply as possible by questionable labor.
Only cool thing is believe it or not you could get a 265HP version in the SS, was a little screamer.
I wouldn't do it.

I vaguely recall there being regularly terminal rust in the unibodies where the subframes attach if you live where there is salt, and sometimes not. The fact that they are all completely off the roads now says something.
I had one as a rental way back. I recall thinking it was WAY slower than it should have been. I assumed that was due to the parasitic AWD.

In reply to RevRico :
I once "took a chance" on an Equinox that did not work out. Detailed in this thread.
Sure, my experience my not have been typical but in that thread others spoke poorly of the Equinox.
My net recommendation is to inspect for rust (like you will see in my pictures)
Consensus is pass, I'll pass. I kinda figured this would be the case but I had to ask

I haven't seen a first gen Equinox in forever. They went from ubiquitous to evaporated in 15 years. Not sure how that happens unless they're rubbish.
Even if there is nothing wrong with them, that seems like a horribly uneven trade for you.
Good choice to pass. Equinox guy probably traded a push mower for it.
