Love the chassis and driving experience of the FRS that I bought new in 2013 and have driven year round since June 2012. Love the style from certain angles. Others not so much. Did the recall for valve springs and have nothing good to say about the experience. Car did not blow up. Yet.
I do not like the engine. Not for any objective reasons, but rather because I think it is ugly and silly. 4 cams for 4 cylinders. 2 heads for 4 cylinders and two cam phasors for 4 cylinders is all kinda weird and indicative of poor design. "Less is more" did not make the memo at Subaru.
Some changes should be made to improve the ownership experience.

LS V8 swaps have been fairly prevalent - quite a few options....
Best V8 motor which absolutely suits the character of the 86 is the Synergy V8s... but those are EXPENSIVE track/race motor setups... absolutely amazing in the 86 chassis though... so light and with much lower CG than the stock boxer.
Will say though, that my favorite V8 so far is actually a Nissan titan motor swap... ain't no stock motor I'm talking about though, 9,000rpm custom built race motor...
