My commute will be shortened from thirty miles each way to five come spring, so I'm considering buying something that's a bit more absurd to hoon than my neverending fleet of beater Subarus.
I can't tell you why I feel the need to own a GM B body Caprice/Roadmaster/Fleetwood, I just do. I'm just not sure that I can deal with an automatic every day. So...
I'd like an LT1 Caprice or Roadmaster wagon, and have unlimited free lift/equipment time at a local transmission shop... What manual transmissions bolt to the LT1?
It's big. It's weird. It can be done cheap from the parts bin. I have to.
T56 from the Fbody botls right up.....
AFAIK, no pedal assemblies tho. Unless something really old is the same.

Back when I had my 96 ss that was always my dream. There were several that converted to six speeds from camaro donors. There used to be a company that sold a kit with all the little things you would need besides what came out of the donor car. I believe that's been out of business for a while though. Try http://www.impalassforum.com/ they have a section for d body's. But I believe the caddy was the only d everything else were b body's.
Sorry for slight thread jack. Now you got me thinking. I bought my Roadmaster wagon for towing. What truck transmission would fit? Or would a T56 hold up to towing.
3rd on the impala SS forums. there's a guy that brought a 5 or 6sp Impala SS to an autocross, so there's surely a way.
Upon doing a little more reading, it looks like T-56, though cost prohibitive for me, is the way to go when swapping from a 4L60E, a LT1 F body parts car would provide nearly everything needed.
Trans, starter, clutch, flywheel, clutch hydraulics, shifter can all be used from the Camaro/Friedchicken. One would need to fab a longer clutch master to slave hose, mod the F body pedal cluster slightly, and cut and tweak the stock B body crossmember. Stock 4L60E driveshaft can be reused(!).
I need a raise.
This link here will take you to a site that appears to be ready to meet your every need for 6-speed B-bodies. FWIW, they say they have sold 135 kits as of five years ago.
(No affiliation whatsoever; I just like their web address. Big fast car dot com – how can you go wrong?)
i have seen a couple done with 5 speeds as well. someone did a t5 behind a 305 in a 91-93 car and a couple guys used the s10 5 speed from 4.3 trucks as well.

Well then, they look helpful! More than I'd like to spend(I swear I'll outgrow cheapness someday...) But they include everything needed for the conversion: Six Speed Kit, $1495
