I'm looking to purchase some safety gear next season as I'm moving to a much faster autocross car, hoping to take the s2000 to some track days, maybe even do a chump/WRL race with some friends, and even for karting. I'm a newb to safety gear beyond helmets, so I have a couple questions.

I like the Simpson Hybrid one because it can be used with a standard seat belt as well as harnesses. Are there any downsides to these? Also, are there any other brands out there can can work with both types of belts?

If I pass on the hybrid style, there are some cheaper options floating around from z-tech and nexgen. Are there cons to these or major reasons to stay away?

My helmet has the holes for the anchors, so that part will be easy. Thanks in advance.

Here are some random links, maybe some info in the there - just some I've looked at in the past. I use a Necksgen "short" style one and it feels nice and secure. It allows a bit more movement and is very small compared to the others. It also claim side impact "support" because of how the tethers are arranged. I think you're in good hands as long as it's certified, but would wait for other to chime in to confirm.

The very first thing you want to do is research which SFI spec, if any, is required for the classes you will be running. It does you no good to buy something that gets rejected at tech.

I've used a regular old Hans for a decade or so, and I never notice the thing after I've left the pregrid. Just make sure you buy the right size. I wear a 19" collar shirt, and I should have hung out for a large. Medium doesn't hurt, but its a squeeze to get it on.

In reply to Streetwiseguy:

I just dug up the rules for Chump and WRL (both run at my local track) and they accept any SFI or FIA rated device. So that makes it easy.

And good call on the collar size. It didn't occur to me to make sure it fits around my neck, not just my chest size haha.
