So tomorrow I'm going to pick up this car http://saginaw.craigslist.org/cto/3103195655.html
Now baring anything terribly wrong with it I'm pretty much sold. I would just like to know what you guys think, where to get go fast parts, intake, exhaust, ect. What would you guys do? During the summers this will be my DD so I'm not looking to get too crazy.
I'd start with suspension stuff first.
I don't know the car very well, but there's likely plenty of options via Ebay, HorsePowerFreaks, etc... Also hop on the forums and see who the vendors are.
If you're looking for a real power bump, look into an SR20VE swap.

A good place to get info is over on G20.net, but as far as upgrades go the p11 has decent after market support. I'd throw a set of konis and GC coil overs on a set of poly bushings and do a SR20DET swap and call it a day
what a great find. i'm jealous.
I so strongly dislike you at this moment...
Having said that, I would STRONGLY suspect this is one of those CL scam-mobiles. The ones that sell for under $5K to avoid prosecution under some law that folks on this message board told me about, but I can't recall at the moment.
Considering how there is a thread on here about insane used car prices, this car SHOULDN'T be a $3K car, but should more likely be a $5K car (though, the manual transmission is a tough sell in most markets).
I once owned a P10 G20 (a 1992 with manual transmission), that was bought in 2002 for $2500 with more miles on it than this one has on it. G20s corner like they are on rails...but unfortunately are also a bit heavy for their size, like a locomotive. Think Integra as built by Nissan, and you get the idea. If you are over 6 ft, the sunroof (if it has one) and the lack of rearward travel to the seats makes these a tight fit, but worth it, I guess. The engines are quite robust, the transmissions? I've been told/have heard that by 2002 the dreaded 5th gear pop-out no longer is a problem. (You need to drive the car up to 55-60 mph in 5th gear, then let off the gas to determine if it has a 5th gear pop-out problem.) Someone on here once said that the oil pump gets weak at about 135k miles, so that with it's timing CHAIN, that would be your biggest expense if the miles claimed are accurate.
Finally, the leather, if so equipped, doesn't hold up quite as well as the cloth on the seats.
BTW, most mags, when testing these cars called them Sentras with delusions of grandeur....don't believe that. NO Sentra is as well buit as a G20.
are the craigslist scammers so brilliant that they know what a manual transmission G20 is though? i'd be impressed.
i would cherish such a car forever. i hope you get it.
Wow, nice looking car. We want more pics if you buy it.
My beater is a '93 5 speed...well now its a 4 speed lol. Mine has 316xxx miles and its pretty beat up but i still do routine maintenance and she keeps on going and going.... been driving it without 5th gear for the past 100k+ miles
Oh I will deffinately have more pics and a sort of "build" thread if I pick it up. I've just been looking for aftermarket stuff and I can find a decent amount, still not finding a good exhaust but I'm excited to say the least.

lol i also daily drive a 94 g20 touring model (black leather, sunroof and LSD) 240k and still on the original motor and trans. I scored it off CL for 300$ with a little body damage, a bad clutch and 150k on it. So far i've added new shocks, poly bushings and bigger rear sway bar. Its a blast to drive around and i've even done a few track days in it at VIR.
As far as maintenance i've replaced
-plugs
-wires
-distributor
-fuel injectors
-AC compressor
-power steering pump
-radiator
Not bad for a car with 240k on it and it still has great compression across the board

I had a p10 that I swaped a VE into. It was certainly more fun but it was still far from fast. In a P11 I would definetly go with a DET swap, the extra torque really helps move the p11's extra weight around.
If you are staring with a 5-speed car it is easy to swap a VE or a DET into it. I have used Calum ECUs for three cars now and they have all worked great and were plug and play.
As mentioned before g20.net is a good plave to start, also sr20-forum.com and sr20forum.com are great resources as well. Good luck, the car you are getting looks like a nice one even if a bit under priced. For reference I sold a p11 5-speed that was trashed with a blown engine for 1200 a year or two ago.

I very briefly owned an early, auto g20 that i paid $180 for. I really like them and would very much like the car in the CL ad assuming it could hit 35mpg highway, minimum.
I sold mine when the water pump locked up and it looked like a pita. I had plenty of other cars with less PITA problems and made money anyway.
Alright guys I did it, pulled the trigger, caught it for 3K flat due to a bad o2 sensor and some body damage not pictured in the ad. I'm not at all skilled in body work, in fact I've never even tried it but from what I understand from reading here with some time a patience it can be done on the cheap. Hopefully I'll be able to take pics and start a "build" thread tonight, if not tomorrow afternoon I'll tear into her. My only question to you guys is where do you like to buy parts? I'm new to the game so eBay can kinda scare me, so does buying from companies I'm not familiar with. First mod I'd like to get is a short shifter but I'm not having much luck finding one. Plenty out there for the p10 cars but I'm not seeing any for the p11. Would a p10 short shifter bolt right on to the p11 with having to mod anything? After that I'm looking at strut bars, I found some on Andy's auto sport, does anyone have an experience with that website? Anyways thanks in advance and I'll try to get some pics up ASAP.
congratulations
i would delay the short shifter and strut braces, if not pass altogether.
pdr first, actual bodywork later.
G20.net - probably the second best car forum I am aware of, has a LOT of information on popular modifications, what parts are available, etc. This forum was started while G20s were still available for sale new, so its had its finger on the pulse of enthusiasts for some time.
sr20-forum.com - The "dash" - its also quite good.
G20.net has some pretty good homebrewed aftermarket stuff available - meaning if you go to the for sale section, and there are a bunch of pretty decent items for sale that were dreamt up on that forum - delrin subframe bushings, polyurethane mounts and such, 5 lug upgrades, intake stuff, ECU tuning equipment, plus a whole metric crap-ton of used parts for sale. Every so often group buys pop up too for headers, carbon fiber goodies, so on and so forth. Lots to choose from.
With regards to strut bars - look for an "Octotat" rear strut bar - this was offered for sale as a vendor on G20.net, but I think they are only now available used - they pop up from time to time used of the for sale forums. Front bars dont have nearly as big an impact on handling as rears due to the front suspension set up. Fronts are almost universally agreed upon as a rice item on these cars due to the bling to benefit ratio being so poor.
Short shifters are available in the for sale section as well - look for vendor TWM performance in the vendors section
I did see the twm shifters but once I linked over to there site it should only p10 model years. As far as why I want one, it's not really I see a great benefit it's more so I find that the stock shifter just seems uncomfortable being as tall as it is.
99 and up are P11, I see the site lists 91-01, so your 02 may not be supported, but Id send them an email to be certain. If they were scamming people, or dishonest, or some other low-quality trait, they wouldnt still be on the forum. The moderators are pretty good about taking out the trash.
Congrats, a G20 or B13 SE-R is on my bucket list!
Nice, Just Noticed It has sport seats. I have leather in mine and it is hot and you slip around. Plus QT 1 is my favorite color.
You'll be happy with the 5 speed mine has automatic and it sucks. Keep us posted.
4cylinderfury, would you be interested in a trans-go shift kit? i think i have one for your car i need to get rid of.
Don't bother with the short shifter, in my opinion. Just get new shifter bushings from Energy Suspension. Makes a huge difference.
In reply to belteshazzar:
I'm not familiar with that kit...got a link?
I've installed a resistor in the transfer control circuit that changes the line pressure, increasing the shift speed, and allowing you to stay in gear until higher in the rpm range. I put this on a switch, allowing me to go from a comfy grandma approved shift, to a shift gears with a hammer shift. Not sure if that kit does the same thing or what. P10 cars were available with a similar feature from the factory.
Haha I'd love bolt in 50hp but right now I'm on a budget. Also I'm really pumped to see a knowledge base here, I just joined G20.net but I'm more comfortable here, GRM is the most welcoming forum I've ever been a part of. Drove her home tonight and she ran like a charm. Tomorrow after work I'll start a thread with pics. My plans till payday is just a wash and detail haha, the PO changed his own oil but made a real mess of the engine bay, I was gonna attack that with some simple green, you guys got any suggestions on how to make the bay look off the showroom floor I'm all ears.
