I accidentally bought another car part, this time a MS1, complete setup. The board is all built, there's another board that simulates the motor with adjustment knobs, the cable and board with the relays and power outs, software, and even a throttle body. I want to replace the Carter AFB on the Javelin with this. Bolt it on and go? I know I need sensors, at least 1 O2, and possibly some fuel system work. I would greatly appreciate any insight or advice.

Thanks,

read the article series on DIYautotune.com about converting a Nova from carb to ms1.

What throttle body?

And I can help with fuel delivery system.

Also, I had a learn me tuning efi thread a little while ago that may help significanly. Also, reading the megamanual so far has been enlightening.

What board version? Plan on spark and fuel? Anything special it need to do other than run the engine?

Best place to start is set it up on the bench and get all the software working.

Unknown. Spark is handled by an MSD ProBillet distributor, do I need the MS to run it, too? Fuel right now is all stock 6 psi mechanical, I don't even know what I need to do. I bought it because he had it set up on a bench with the software running and showed me everything. I'd be happy with it just running the engine, an AMC 360 V8. The fuel will be a 4bbl throttle body with 4 injectors. Right now everything is set up for a Ford 302, but it should convert over just fine.

EFI, is good, but spark control adds a whole 'nother level of control, efficiency and performance - unless your dizzy is very well tuned.

Some main boards do not support spark (v2.2) and are thus fuel only.

This is why a previous poster asked which main board you have purchased.

With the msd you can either use ms for spark by locking the advance, or leave it as-is. Spark tuning isn't as easy as fuel but getting it to do what a mech dizzy can is super simple and you can dabble with "vaccum" advance easily as well.

For fuel you will want a pump thats capable of efi pressure. There are lots of options there but it depends a lot on the tank setup and if you need the pump to pull from the top of the tank or out of a sump.

Sensors, minimum are coolant and air temp, and a wideband o2 for ease of tuning. Throttle position is optional but highly recommended, accel enrichment and decel cut are much better with one. Hopefully your efi tb has one.

Pop the top off the case and check the board. V1 and 2.2 are green and v3 and 3.57 are blue.

with a bbl throttle body and megasquirt, im going to assume either an older holley pro-jection or autonomics throttle body. figure out what injector size you have, and if you can post pictures and part numbers for what you bought, I can help there.

as far as fuel delivery, theres a few different options. in order of expense:

  1. inline high pressure pump with a return to the tank. 3/8 feed, min 5/16 return. will probably starve under 1/2 tnk when turning moderately hard.

  2. use existing mechanical pump to feed a surge tank located in the engine bay, with a high pressure pump being fed from the surge, and a retun to the tank as well. ugly, but effective.

  3. low pressure lift pump, surge tank, high pressure pump, 3/8 feed and return. this is what I did on the elky. was able to hide it all, never starves. all ebay parts. dead nuts reliable, but you may not have the space. you can see it in the 64 el camino build thread on here.

  4. in tank pump version a: ls1 Camaro fuel tank module and mounting ring welded into tank. regulated at a constant 58psi, which may be too high for what throttle body you are running. there are ways around this. never used it, but never seen a problem.

  5. in tank pump version b: tanks inc pa series. walbro pump, custom sump, no welding required in most cases. as seen in the duster build thread on here.

First, figure out exactly what you've got there - there is a good link here to help:
