Learn Me Next Car For Family Member.

A family member has a 13 Focus hatchback with about 72k miles on it and it is turning out to be a total lemon. They are having issues with the gas tank and it is going to be a costly repair in a couple months. With that in mind, they are looking to dump the vehicle and get into an appliance that will be less trouble. They deliver pizzas and need something that would hold up to transporting two dogs around (60 lb pitbull and a smaller beagle rottweiler mix puppy). I think Honda Fit would be a good fit. Civic or a Corolla would probably be a good fit. How about a Sentra or Chevy Cruze? They seem to both be pretty reasonable. Would prefer vehicle to be on the newer side.

Appliance=> Prius. Done. Get a second gen one for reasonable and save money. They are used as taxis in some cities and are holding up well enough. By the way, shouldn't a fuel tank be covered under the emissions warranty on a '13?

I checked and the mileage it has is out of the emissions warranty They are looking at a Versa Note and a Sentra (both 13s) tomorrow.

Yaris, corolla, prius, fit, accent, sonata, soul would be my list.

Chevy Cruze. They depreciate like nobody's business, especially the old ones now that a completely new generation is out (Our dealership picked up 55 from Canada from a fleet turn-in. '14s and '15s with under 15K miles for $13K). Frequently see them over 100K miles at work with nothing more than routine maintenance (Brakes alone last to like 80,000 miles), get ~40mpg easily. Simple, basic transportation. Only major issues I see with them are water pumps (Which are covered under a warranty extension to 10 years/150K) and battery ground cables (also under a special coverage to 125K)
