This your best source for info and parts:

An 86 Si is essentially an extended wheelbase 1st gen CRX. Torsion bar front suspension, tranverse tube axle in the rear; the rear swaybar is mounted inside the tube.

For autocross they can be great cars. Poopshovel should chime in soon as he had one of the best EP cars ever and it was a third gen Civic hatch, too. I've had three first gen CRX's and they were all great.

Don't know how one would do for rallycross.

That's the upside. The downside is finding a good one. Check for rust around the rear wheel openings, hatch area, and everywhere else.

Also, the dohc/16v 1.6 engine from a first gen Integra is a direct swapfot the original 1.5 12v with multi-port fuel injection.

Have fun!

These ruled DSP autocross through the late 80's.

I may be wrong here, as it was a long time ago, but I think the CRX Si was in CSP and the Civic Si was in DSP.

I absolutely adored my '86 Civic Si. If I could find a good one I'd buy one again in a heartbeat. Don't rallycross a good one, they're too awesome to tear up.

If I remember correctly, the Firehawk racing was only four four-seaters, so the CRX wasn't legal. But the Civic Si did very well for several years.

Yup. Daddy misses his girl. Fortunately, she's still "in the family" so I might get her back one day:

Fortunately, I've still got an 87 Si as my daily. Anyway, oldsaw got it right. Parts, both from honda and aftermarket stuff are (cry) starting to go away. Pretty sure OPM doesn't make squat for them anymore. For a cheap, rock solid driver/FUN autocrosser, buy a set of cheap, used adjustable struts, get some 27 or 28mm torsion bars, 350 - 450lb/in. rear springs, some dirt-track 13 X 9 wheels from diamond or aero, throw on some hoosiers and go.

Cheap power mods include grabbing a 1st gen integra ECU and injectors for a little bump in power and higher rev-limit. Also, you can't possibly throw enough advance at these motors. I've actually hacked open the channel on the distributor bracket to eek out another 5HP on the dyno. Additional fuel pressure (ghetto method) can be achieved by crushing the FPR slightly with a socket.

And yes, the D16A1 from a first gen integra, or any number of the ZC variants will work with little modification. There's a good article from an old SC on redpepperracing.

If you want a "finished" car (coilovers, shocks, D16 swap, nice paint, etc.) this one is for sale in Chattanooga, and an absolute berkeleying blast to drive. Wish I could afford it right now If you want the seller's info, lemme know:

thanks poopshovel...I wish I had the money too.

I think I'm going to think more about what exactly I want (or if I truly want to set up the new WRX for track/autocross work instead) for the time being....plus need to finish up the GT6 eventually...

If anyone in the mid-atlantic is interested, here's the listing of the Si I was looking at. Confirmed with buyer new timing belt, no known mechanical issues, under 100k miles, cracked taillight, small area of rust on front frame rail...
