I wouldn't worry about mismatched truck to trailer. My truck is Oklahoma, my FIL dump trailer is California, his equip trailer is Ohio and no one has ever looked twice. Ohio; where I live, keeps jacking the trailer prices around and I knew California had permanent trailer plates but it has to be purchased there, thanks for all the info guys.

I have been using Maine Trailer reg for many years. In MA my open deck trailer was $140 a year and the enclosed was $180 year. I have 3 trailers plated with Maine for 5 years each for under $300. I did discover that it is just barely proper. The ruling is that the trailer is supposed to be connected to a "apportioned" vehicle. Read that as tractor trailer set up. I have not been stopped yet but certainly see plenty of LEO's and never get a second glance. You can pick from many different years, 1, 5 10 so if you have AADD just go 5 and its part of $99 down the drain if you switch trailers in two years.
Just tried this site out. If this works I am going to be the happiest guy alive. Hate trailering an hour each way to the DMV to stand in line for 4 hours. LOVE IT!
NYS has permanent plates, you just have to buy a little sticker every year.
I know that is not the point of this thread.

Virginia has it. I don't remember what the break even point was - from memory it was 3 or 4 years.
About 10 years ago, I had 3 trailers with permanent Virginia plates. And an un-licensed tow dolly. And 2 cars with Antique plates.

Yep...I'm happy to fly the Empire State colors, but those damn 1" x 0.75" annual registration stickers are pretty spendy at $100 a pop!
I sent an email last night to Mainetrailerregistrations.com with a few questions....will post here once answered. Odds are good I'm going to at least do the 5 year reg, as it's the same cost as 1 year of NYS.
