I bet they also don't shoot ball bearings all over the shop if you do something silly like pick one up before the top plate is locked or something.

+1 before I got the hub stands I used a couple pieces of vinyl siding with a grease sandwich and it works great.

I have Intercomps, and the only thing I don't like about them is the cables are like trying to get Christmas tree lights back in the box.

I use thin cutting boards (.030) no grease needed for turning plates. Around $4 at any kitchen store.
