My dad is wanting another rat rod to match his '48 Chevy truck, since he's owned the '48 since the Clinton administration and he's dangerously close to finishing it. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/laugh-18.png)
Somehow on the phone at lunch he started talking about some piece he got from Speedway, and my mind started turning . . .
Anyway, he digs the old-school vibe (If I had to pin it down, I'd call my old man a beatnik . . . even down to the dogeared Jack Kerouac sitting on my folk's coffee table) and the new Tribute T kit would fit him perfectly. He's wanted a for-real steel one for a minute, but these days the steel bodies are unobtanium.
Any of you even have any dealings with the kits? This might be something my mom and I look into for his birthday next month . . .
T-Buckets are like motorcycles. When it rains you get wet, when it's cold out you're cold. There's no storage so if you go somewhere with a girl (or wife) pocket money because you can't lock a purse up.
Speedway Motors has some cool stuff but so a lot of homework. There are a boat load of kits out there, find one that Mom likes too.

The tribute T is pretty. I'm under the impression, though, that a replica Model A would be worth a little more than a t-bucket if you put the same amount of money into it. That's not an issue if you don't think you'd ever get rid of it and try to get your money back.
FWIW, I like a nicely built, low buck fiberglass rod. I HATE fake rust painted onto a one.
I really hate T Buckets. I don't know why I just do.
I don't like the 1970s-style customizations of them....the ones that are chromed out, with candy purple paint, or worse, metal flake. Traditional/rat ones can be nice....Flat black with a piece of diamond plate for the firewall ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/cool-18.png)
