This is a car I'd like to check out for my mother. She's okay'd it on all the basic stuff, so now I need to check them for reliability and parts.

I live amongst the Suzuki people, and I have never heard a bad word about them. I know a very competent dealer tech that tells me that the J20 motor in the SX4 is the most kickass of all the J motors, a kind of big block version of the Swift GT motor.
If that thing were only a 2 door, it would be HUGE.
Their head quarters is very near my parents company's outside of Osaka. They like them there.
Other than that all I got is some were rebadged Daewoos, which were crap. The Jap Suzuki's I know were very good.
my mom has an 08 auto awd it has about 60k on it and they havent done anything other than brakes/ filters/ routine maintenance. it isnt too bad to drive i dont mind it and the mpg are pretty decent. i know the warranty is good if you are thinking new i also know the newer ones switched to cvt at some point. her prior vehicle was a grand vitara that thing was crap to drive but was also dead nuts reliable for 100k +
Can anybody buy a new Suzuki? I haven't seen one on the dealers lot here since shortly after the Japanese tsunami. I presume they got hit hard...
They are cheap enough that I'm probably going to recommend a new car with the big warranty.
Is the SX4 a Daewoo in disguise? I know the Verona was, so was the Reno.
The SX4 was a joint venture between Suzuki and Fiat.
I dig them quite a lot. I see a neat little european hatchback that just happens to be available with AWD and a 5spd.
I hear that they are pretty miserable to drive but nothing specific as to what is wrong with them. Isn't the SX4 the reasonably priced car on TGUS?
I find them interesting due to the fiat connection. I keep wanting one to convert to look like the sedici

Our dealer has lot's of cars on his lot. Probably because nobody buys them.
I don't think Fiat had anything to do with the design of the SX4.
A guy at work has one and really likes it . . . . . . .
then again his other vehicle is a Suzuki X90!

fiat helped with the diesel version in europe... they have their own version with different lights, bumpers, wheels, and interior/exterior trim
THE SX4's are all suzuki, No Daewooki involvement there. THat J-engine has been around a while and is very dependable.
I like them. In fact, if the SX4 Sport got a little better fuel economy it would be at the top of my replacemtnt list for the Elantra.

What makes you say that? Are you drawing a distinction between the concepts of developed and designed?
I've seen that before, but I don't think Fiat had anymore to do with it other than rebadging it as a Fiat.
As Raze points out in Wikipedia, it's said that the SX4 was a joint venture between Fiat and Suzuki, and the design itself comes from Italdesign.
And did you know there are lift kits available? And rock sliders? And a skidplate?
Motor problems.
Similar J series motor, but not nearly as well built. They have bottom end problems that my tuner buddy claims is 100% the fault of a brutal factory computer tune.

And they supplied the Diesels.. the Diesels all use Fiat's "multijet" engine

are those S10/blazer wheels?
jeep wheels, they bolt right on from what i understand but the offset is different. they look awesome though.
bastomatic wrote: Ok, so now I'm looking at these too. Were they available AWD with a manual transmission?
yes
