Its a clean sheet design not shared with anything other than the Panamera. It seems durable with the exception of the plastic water pipes. There is an aluminum update.

The NA Cayenne V8's can have issues with cylinder wall scoring and if that happens they're essentially scrap. Gotta make sure they're not eating excessive oil. Other than that, replacing the plastic coolant pipes and coolant T hoses makes them pretty bomb proof.
what cause the scoring? improper maintenance or is it a tolerance issue?
Not sure, but it's a fairly well known issue, big thread on it on Rennlist. Doesn't effect the Turbo motors nearly as much.
