So... I found
this car for sale that is missing the title. I've always been curious on the title recovery process, and was wondering if any of you guys have dealt with this? If its gonna be a time and money consuming process, I'll go ahead and pass and continue my search... Thanks guys!

Really depends on the state. I just went through it in NJ and it was fairly simple (shocking for NJ DMV)
But that ad smells a bit fishy. Around here it's about $20 to get a replacment title issued if you lost it. Find out what the cost is and offer to pay it for the seller.
Just contact your state DMV.
Can't afford replacement ? That does sound fishy.
A bonded title costs about $300 in Georgia. A replacement title for the person who actually owns the car should cost about $60. My guess is the person with the car doesn't not own it in the eyes of the Georgia government. Not stolen, just not theirs legally.
That car is about $1000 too much. I would take "runs" with a grain of salt. It would be much cheaper for you to pay a friend $5 to kick you in the nuts. I would run far, far away from that car.
Meet the goober at the DMV and pay for the title. Get him to sign it over there.
Just read it again. This guy sounds like a real bozo.
"it idels a lot"
Judging by some of the trucks I've looked at here in Vegas, it'll probably idle or run at full throttle, but nowhere in between...

Or, bank owns title, goober going for cash before it gets repo'ed. I'd walk away from a newer/ish car without paperwork. Salvage or junk title is one thing...
Very possible there is a lien on the car, so no title.
Just what oldtin said.
