I do believe the good doctor is running around with a 3sgte 4 door right now.

CR-Vs don't have a center diff. They have a rear diff that only engages when the speeds between the front and rear wheels are different. It's purely reactive and won't engage until the front wheels are spinning.
Since it does work on fluid pressure from internal pumps, i have to wonder if you couldn't tap a port to the outside and hook up a pump to turn it on electrically with fluid pressure from the pump.

His is second gen and far too normal. The first gen 2 door is weird.

Congratulations! You invented Haldex.
I wonder how many people who pooh-pooh many transverse AWD setups as "not being true AWD" because they don't have center diffs, also fanboy over Skyline GTRs, which are the same setup, the front end only gets power when the computer says to. And I hear tell that the R32s were VERY crude in this regard. But 90% of the time it is a RWD car with a lot of extra drag.

The two door first gen rav4s get me every time. I look like a dog that's had one too many tennis balls thrown and the same time and doesn't know how to proceed.

I think the difference is that RWD bias is great, while FWD bias is boring. I don't need power to the front wheels unless the rears are spinning, but I always need power to the rear wheels.
