When you look at the data for the federal 595ss tires. The utqg for a 195/60r14 is 460. Meanwhile, the 185/55R14 of the exact same brand and style has a UTQG rating of 260.
How and why would two similarly sized tires have two different treadwear rating? The only thing I can think of is that federal tire is a Chinese corporation, and that has led to some sort of awful translation or just crap documentation of their own tires.
My understanding is that utqg numbers can be very inconsistent and they are really only useful when comparing two tires of the same brand. If the two tires are manufactured in different plants that may be an issue as well. But this is info from the internet so ......

And at first I thought that the treadwear rating on the website was just a typo, since one is 460 and the other is 260, but then I saw some real life photos from google that confirm that the website is accurate.
I just don’t want to be missing out on some sticky performance because I went with a different size.
And yes, I already know that these are not that great of a tire for performance anyway. But there isn’t anything else out there that is performance oriented, only $60 a tire with free shipping, and in 14 inch wheel sizes.
To answer the other question, I find them pretty grippy, especially for the price. I've got them on my M3ti in 235/45r17 and they work great in the dry and the rain as long as it's warm.

Good to know. I emailed federal. Likely won’t hear back, the hotline is a number in China. I’m not spend a fortune to find out. Guess I’ll be the experiment the internet never had!
