This is mostly idle speculation, but I happened across an ad for a V60 at a buy here/pay here lot not far from me, and I find myself intrigued but ignorant. The car in question is a 2015.5 with the 2.5 I5 and AWD. My limited research indicates that there were a number of different engine and trans combos around this time, and that some had issues, but I can't find a clearly definitive discussion that lays out the ones to look for and the ones to avoid.
Beyond that, I'm curious about general impressions from anyone who's driven or worked on these. I like my V50, but it's going to need a few things, and I'm wondering if it's time to consider newer alternatives.
I've also thought a V60 of that era would be really awesome to have as a daily–albeit in Polestar flavor.
FCP Euro has some videos that might help:
S60s are cheap around me. Weirdly cheap. I've come across info saying they can burn oil due to weak piston rings. Nothing else substantial though.

Oil burning is what I've heard too, on both the I4 and I5 engines in certain model years. The oil control ring seems prone to clogging. Of course, the car that spurred my interest in in the affected range, so that's a considerable concern (though some say they've resolved it with a piston soak or engine flush, but these are anecdotal reports).
The FCP Euro videos were helpful. The car I spotted locally is pretty similar spec to the one in the test drive video, though this one is AWD with the I5, so more capability but poorer fuel economy. I do like the I5 a lot in my V50, and I'd be willing to accept the fuel economy hit, but the possibility of significant oil burning worries me (I dealt with that in my E39 525i with the M54 - very annoying).

Our S60 is a 2017, slightly newer than that. It has the VEA / VEP4 block, successor to the long-running whiteblock.
It's a 2.0 turbo labeled T5 AWD, coupled to an 8-speed automatic. It's got plenty of torque for daily driving, and the transmission is responsive. It's a very comfortable ride but doesn't feel soft or ponderous at all.
Ours has minimal mileage (29,000 miles as of this writing) but it also has had minimal issues. It does not seem to burn or leak oil at all. Overall the car has needed minimal maintenance and drives very nicely. I might investigate how much more it would cost to move up a couple years to a 2016+.

The B4204T11 delivers 245 PS (180 kW; 242 hp) at 5500 rpm and 350 N⋅m (260 lb⋅ft) of torque between 1500–4800 rpm

More recent cars are definitely more money; not saying it wouldn't be worth it, but it changes the equation. The specific car that got me investigating ticks a lot of boxes: AWD, high option spec with sport seats, Harmon Kardon sound system, and a good color combo - it's hard to find similarly-spec'd examples in any year. If it weren't for the potential engine issue I'd probably have gone to look at it already.
I have been casually looking at these for a long time. I believe the piston ring problems were finally resolved in mid-2016 for the 2017 and up model years. There was talk of a class action against Volvo over the problems as the oil consumption was like, a quart every 500-1000 miles. Volvo did replace some rings and engines under goodwill when the cars were all still relatively new, but probably much harder to get them to commit to that these days.
If I bought one of these I would want the simplest spec possible. These newer Volvos have more in common with a Benz or BMW than the Volvos of old. No thanks to Haldex AWD or the twincharged engine...

I have the Haldex system in my V50 and it's been great. I changed the fluid when I got it, but that's it. No issues. Now the twincharged engine, no thanks....

In reply to 02Pilot :
My 2019 V60 has the T6 twincharged engine. It's got 42,000 miles on it and other than using up brakes pretty rapidly, it's been mechanically trouble free. I realize that's still short term, but I've had no issues.
It is 400% more mileage than my boss's Alfa got before it needed a new engine, so there's that...
