The EPA has a tremendous effect on our hobby. Any realistic discussion on the EPA's effect on cars in general or motorsports in specific will get 'political' if the realities of the matter are discussed. So either ban discussion of the EPA as a subject, make a rule that no one can say anything that maligns the EPA, or more clearly define what is political.

When I was in high school I was madly in love with a girl who had the initials EPA.  This thread is triggering a lot of bad memories of how Elisha left my tuba playing self for one of those cool trombone guys.  I hope you guys are happy.

The EPA definitely does, in that the rules they help create and/or enforce have a bearing on what we can do with our cars and their parts, and what is on the new vehicles we can purchase.  But whether the people there are right/left/good/evil/heroes/villains/robots/lizardpeople/nazis or the agency as a whole is any of those things is not really relevant and tends to get people all riled up as a discussion topic.  I don't mind, in fact I'm sort of enjoying your posts about it, but clearly there's some offense being taken by some members.  Plus, those are the rules.

Can the mods just ban this crackbrain already?  I was actually really enjoying this thread until GG came in like Alex Jones hyped up on cocaine and starting E36 M3ing on people with his lunatic rants.  I think he's made it clear he's not going to be a productive member.

And can we please get back to talking about diesels?  I'd like to keep learning here.  As they say, don't feed the trolls.

For our hobby, specifically, if you look at who the EPA has gone after, it's always the ones who are actually doing harm.  What sucks is when the reaction of bad actors affects a lot more than intended, but that's how it works.  The coal rollers are doing none of us a favor- and are actually making all of us look bad.

I feel (<----the most important words in this post) that GG is basically right.  Who staffs these agencies typically determines their policymaking.  It's terribly relevant who is employed there and their agendas.  Outside of a vacuum, real life, the EPA has done a lot of harm to individuals and corporations.  Inside of our vacuum here it's impolite to say that, so I won't.

Simply putting some regulations and proper exhaust systems in place for those large ships and especially cruise ships would give us a larger decrease in harmful particulates than any change in cars ever would. It drives me nuts that we spend so much time arguing and policing the car when we could go after the 300 or so cruise ships in the US to get the same drop in emissions. My 2 cents idk.
