I bought a 1999 legacy wagon and would like to make it handle better (rear sway bar) and shift better. Is there any cheap mods parts from another subbie to make it a bit more fun to drive?

WRX suspension parts. If you look hard enough you can find it cheap-ish.

What trans does it have? What trans do you want?

IDK if it's verboten to link to another forum, but....

try nasioc (ignore the fanbois along the way) It's technically an impreza/wrx/sti forum but alot of legacy and other subies there too. you should be able to research what wrx parts fit your leggy and then find them used there too....

judging by what I've seen on most leggies, the first order of business should be better tires.

try this link to the legacy section and note the stickies... http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=13

WRX suspension won't work if it's an Outback. They have welded in spring spacers on the chassis. Regular Legacy models are ok.

Most of the secrets lie on NASIOC if you're willing to spend time wading through the searches.

I had a legacy specific whiteline front swaybar, and it made the car handle a whole lot better.

Skip NASIOC, go to Ultimate Subaru (www.ultimatesubaru.org) and Legacy Central (www.legacycentral.org) instead. More knowledge, less BS.

If your car is an automatic Outback, pretty much all the fun has been dialed out from the factory, I'd sell the car before I put money into an auto. Swapping control arms will let you run regular Impreza/Legacy bits. IIRC if you look around there are Bilsteins spec'd for the Outback, and there are a few sets of stiffer springs that will work.

I hope to pick up a short shifter for it this week and order a rear sway bar next from ipd
