I'm sure the answer is out there, I just can't find it.  Here's the question.  I have an SA2005 helmet that is pretty much in perfect condition.  I usually run a few autocrosses per year.  They are a mixture of SCCA and non-SCCA events, although the non-SCCA events also at least loosely follow SCCA classing and safety rules.  I'm assuming, based on prior experience, there will be an SA2020 standard dropping sometime in the next calendar year.  I know at some point I'll need a new helmet, just wondering when.  The Mrs. would probably buy me one for Christmas, but it would have to be a "left over" SA2015 spec as far as I can tell.  What I'd like to do is get another season out of my SA2005 and then pic up an SA2020 after they come out, likely at Christmas time next year.

Sooooo, the $1,000,000 question is, can I count on a full season from my current helmet or will it not meet rules at some point during the year when the 2020's are released?

Depends on the organization.  Pretty sure SA2005's aren't legal right now in PCA.  For NASA I think they are.  Given that the SA2020's won't be coming out until October of 2020, my SA2010 should be ok for one last season with PCA.

SCCA backdates 2 helmet regs for autox. Your 2005 helmet should be scca legal through next year since the Regs are effectively a 1 year delay.

This is the currently legal helmets for SCCA‌and I would not expect this to change next year.

I would imagine any non SCCA event you go to would have a few loaner helmets. And the scca should too. So I say save your bucks till next october when the new 2020's release.
