edit I just realized I spelled "learn" wrong in the topic title
So I'm undertaking a full rebuild of the high-compression M30B28 in my euro E28. Ported head, cam, oversized valves, all the good stuff - I thought about doing a swap instead but I'm thinking I want to keep it original for the sake of collector value (though if a V8 came along for the right price, I could be dissuaded).
Anyways, the euro 528 is kind of a strange beast in that it utilizes Bosch L-Jetronic injection, unlike the other models & US cars which all used Motronic 1.0. Well, L-Jetronic sucks other than throttle response. Motronic 1.0 just plain sucks. So I'm starting to look at other EFI options, and I know how much of a fan base MS has on here...
I've never really looked into it before. I'm not even sure where to start. I just know that I really like the tweakability that MS supposedly offers. I'm not even sure how specifically it's implemented; am I correct in assuming that I have the options of running something simple based on the stock intake manifold & hardware or something extreme going as far as ITB's and that kind of thing? I'm already getting myself lost here! What do I do? Where can I start getting info?
L-Jetronic is easy enough if you don't want ignition control - the MS can get a tach signal off the coil and use mostly stock sensors. I would take the vane air flow meter out, but mostly because it's a restriction. Other than that, you can use the stock sensors.
If you want ignition control, I'd get the crank trigger off a later M30 with the Motronic 1.1 or 1.3. Should bolt right on, and using it with MegaSquirt is pretty well scienced out. The Motronic 1.0 used a flywheel trigger that the software doesn't support at the moment.
A friend of mine built a Megasquirt for his early euro 635csi with L-jet that worked really well. Here's a link to one thread about its development on the mye28 board, you can probably find some more info there by searching on his screen name. He ultimately went to a system with individual coils, I think they were Ford. If you need more I can get you his email; he's a pretty busy guy but can probably help you out with questions. http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?t=62783
IIRC, it's not uncommon for Volvo guys with Jetronic cars to plug MS into a Jetronic harness (with a few mods); see www.turbobricks.com and go to their Performance section.

You need a new avatar, it should read: EFI is my bitch...
