i registered for the challenge last night. budget is currently sitting at $1855.91. i still haven't heard the engine run, which doesn't really leave much time for shaking down any issues prior to the 1200-mile tow. tonight, if all goes well, i'll fill the cooling system and attach the wires for the electric fan and install the battery and hook up the fuel supply and turn the key and it'll run like a raped ape and i'll get some sleep.

i'd update my V8 944 thread but my camera took a dump and as we all know:

"this post is worthless without pics."

My AWD (disatrously difficult) tranny is laying on the floor, the entire front suspension is out of the car, the motor is hanging from a 2x4 prop, and I'm awaiting about a dozen UPS packages.

I'm ready.

One may say that it would be dangerous to work on a car while it's in an enclosed trailer and being towed down the road at 80 mph.

But really, how dangerous is it?

probably at least as dangerous as being in a car putting back together the dash and wiring the ECU on an open trailer.

i chose a morale boost over actually getting the car running. instead of the plan laid out above, i took the car off the stands, torqued the lugs, removed all the crap that was piled on the roof, pushed it outside, and washed it. it looks pretty good. i was surprised at how well the water beaded up on it -- this is a car that was painted in '04 and has probably not had any love since then.

sometimes, it's nice to have a clean car to work on.

then i went back to soldering and testing my wires. a 12v power supply box is a nice thing to have. so far, i haven't screwed up any of my soldering or routing of wires, and i think my switch panel looks pretty racey. maybe tonight i'll get to fire it up.
