GO!
I was thinking 200-something Volvo, but Scout makes more sense. Either will be uber-awesome with LS power, I'm sure...
No swaps. It drove on the trailer and runs good. Didn't want to drive 50 miles home on tires that appear 20+ years old.
Real question:
Does a truck of this vintage (I guess 1970) have rear seat belts?
Those belts will be helpful/needed to put modern kid car seats in the rear.
That has a massive amount of potential. Too bad the rust is not also theoretical. Definitely worth fixing from what can be seen there!
There was one on my local craigslist with a swapped in 7.3l diesel that I really wanted to justify owning

1971 yes rear seat belts.
also 345 v8, factory air conditioning, locking rear diff, 2 owner with window sticker. it came from NC and never saw an ohio winter, or it'd have returned to the soil long ago like most internationals did.
undecided on what to do. if a fair offer were made i'd let it go. i kinda wanted an old wagon and this ticked the boxes, but i also don't really need it kicking around.
i ran it for about 30 minutes. found a vacuum leak, it has 3 year old gas, and think it can use a tuneup and carb cleaning. the exhaust y pipe is trash so it's loud but it shifts fine and the locking rear diff is confimed working. power window works on tailgate. rust is mostly confined to the quarters and a bit at the bottom of each front fender.
found a site claiming the average new car price in 1971 was $3000. this one had enough options to bump it up over 6 grand.
How did you know I was going to be driving through next month with an empty trailer for the trip back? Did someone tell Dan I will be in NY too, so he can tempt me with some random motorcycle or something?

Stop by
after sleeping on it, and seeing it out in the driveway this morning, i realize i'm in love with it. so it has to go, or i'll put it in line for deep resto work and never get rid of it. operation "just drive it for the summer with the kids in the back while doing little repairs then see if you can get your money back in the fall" would be a failure, and it'll take time away from more pressing things like the chevelle and the challenge car. i get emotionally attached to vehicles, and the more time i spend with this one the deeper i'll get hooked.
anyone interested pm me since this isn't the classified section.
